Henderson Data Solutions has a firm commitment to helping those in need. It is more than good PR; it is one of the purposes of the company, therefore a portion of profits is donated to a variety of charities. We also offer time off for any of our employees who desire to do charitable work and to pay a portion of their expenses. Below are some of the charities which we support.
Healing Hands International is a humanitarian organization providing relief and aid across the world. The reason this was chosen as our primary charity is they do an amazing amount with the money they are given. Charity Navigator gives Healing Hands their highest 4-Star rating. This is due in part to their 93.4% efficiency. This means that after fundraising and administrative costs, over 93 cents of every dollar goes to those who need it. Part of how they are able to do this is their CEO, Gerald Hurst, works for just $39k per year. Doing a quick comparison of the salaries of CEOs at other "charities" will quickly show how serious the leadership of that charity is about getting money where it is needed.
By working primarily in foreign countries, Healing Hands is able to stretch their dollars by helping those who are poorest and where even the slightest amount of money can make a huge difference.
Healing Hands is a believer in the cliche about "Teach a man to fish." They give locals the tools and training they need to provide food for their families, so that Healing Hands is free to move on and help others. They send experts with supplies and equipment to build farms at several different levels of sophistication. The first level is nothing more complicated than a device that helps to drip water onto your crops, but it is enough to feed a family. By the time they are done, there is a town co-op set up, so that farmers can earn money for their other needs and help feed their neighbors as well. Of course, Healing Hands also gives food directly to those who are in immediate need.
With programs such as: farm building, food supplies, well building, medical trips, building schools, and sending basic supplies, Healing Hands International is able to help a great number of people in the most basic of ways. There is no politics involved. It's not flashy. It simply helps people.
Habitat for Humanity, made popular by President Jimmy Carter, helps to get families around the world into livable homes. By getting discounts from suppliers, donations, and volunteer labor, they are able to build houses cheaply for those who otherwise couldn't afford a home of their own.
Houses are built all over the world, such as the one above in Romania. Many of their projects though are right here in America. Habitat is not a give-away. Families are expected to put hundreds of hours into the building of their own homes and the homes of their neighbors. This helps Habitat to build effectively with the money they have while giving the homeowner valuable experience. Habitat also offers no-profit loans to help the homeowner pay for the heavily discounted price of the home.
The American Red Cross is one of the most well known charities in the world. Though best known for their blood drives, they also have a large role in disaster relief such as with Hurricane Katrina.
The Red Cross has a role in international politics ensuring human rights world wide. They also offer a variety of educational resources on health and disaster preparedness as a public service.
